Editorial Board Chairman

Albert J. Buckwalter, PMP
Editor-In-Chief

Albert J. Buckwalter is a Litigation Support Director with the Federal Government. He has over 18 years of litigation support experience in both private and public organizations. He has managed or supported litigation against such organizations as Tenent Healthcare, McDonald Douglas/General Dynamics, Boeing, Alaska Pulp Corporation and the Federal lawsuit against Tobacco manufacturers. He started his litigation support career as a bilingual legal assistant with a personal injury firm. His most recent accomplishment was completing the Army Ten Miler in the fall of 2008 and receiving the Department of Justice - Civil Rights Division’s Excellence in Legal Support Award in 2008 . Albert has a BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park and is originally from the great state of New Jersey.

 

Sally A. Kane, Esq.
Associate Editor

Ms. Kane is an attorney and a highly experienced writer/editor specializing in legal and career topics.  She has published over one-hundred law-related articles in print and web-based media and performs a variety of print and on-line projects for law firms, legal recruiters, Websites and other media. Her book on litigation support careers is scheduled to be published next year by Delmar Cengage Learning.  Ms. Kane holds a bachelor’s degree in English/Writing from Edinboro University and a law degree from Duquesne University School of Law where she served as an editor of the Duquesne Law Review. Prior to law school, Ms. Kane worked as a paralegal and litigation support professional.

Reza Alexander

Reza Alexander is the Litigation & Practice Support Manager for DLA Piper UK LLP - responsible for the delivery of technology led litigation and document management solutions to the firm’s EMEA offices. Reza is also an active member of both the Litigation Support Technology Group [LiST] and the Sedona Conference WG6: International Electronic Information Management, Discovery and Disclosure Group. A frequent speaker at electronic disclosure and industry specific conferences and seminars and a published author of various articles on electronic disclosure - Reza’s forte is in sourcing and identifying cost-effective and practical solutions to the inherent challenges of volume litigation and regulatory investigations - and is particularly keen in bridging the communications gap between lawyers and IT departments including the general advancement and wider education of litigation technology in the industry.

James Fairbarns

Jim Fairbarns is a Senior Litigation Support Specialist with Abacus Technology Corp. He has 20 years of litigation support experience on contracts with six Federal agencies. His first job in the field was as a document coder at the old Sterling Systems division of PRC. His professional odyssey has included stops at CACI, Automated Systems and Programing Inc., and Alphatech Corp. A home brewer of some repute, Jim has a BA in Management from National-Louis University.

Robert Fairbarns

Rob Fairbarns has over 15 years of experience in litigation support, imaging and document management. He has worked for a number of companies and has been active in both the commercial and government arenas. He has focused primarily on the document management issues inherent in litigation of any size and has attained CDIA certification. Besides his professional background, Mr. Fairbarns has degrees from Appalachian State University and the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is currently working as a consultant. 

Duane Lites

Duane Lites has over 20 years of litigation support experience, and has spent 10 of those Managing Litigation Support departments in several large law firms . He is currently the Director of Litigation Support at Jackson Walker LLP in Dallas, TX. He has been a frequent speaker on litigation technology and electronic discovery, and is very active in the litigation support industry. He is the owner/moderator of the National Litigation Support Listserv with over 7,500+ members, and a member of the EDRM Metrics project.

Rachi Messing

Rachi Messing is the Vice President of Technology Services at DiscoverReady LLC. He has focused his professional career on designing, implementing and supporting complex Discovery Management Solutions including Electronic Repositories and Electronic Data Discovery. He has worked on some of the most complex electronic document reviews for many of the country’s largest law firms and corporate legal departments. His experience ranges from large patent litigation matters to SEC investigations. He is proficient in most major litigation support applications and frequently conducts admin and end-user training. Rachi is Microsoft and Citrix certified and has a clear understanding of how large IT systems integrate and can be utilized in the data collection and data review process. Rachi graduated from Towson University with a Bachelors degree in Economics. He and his wife Devorah enjoy chasing their two kids around their home in Baltimore, MD.

Shimmy Messing

Shimmy Messing is a partner of Responsive Data Solutions, LLC in Washington, DC facility. He works closely with some of the largest law firms in the country and has been an integral part of creating efficiencies and implementing creative technology workflows to support some of the most complex litigation cases. He has obtained certification in many of the industries leading software platforms. Shimmy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems at Towson University in Maryland. Shimmy, his wife and daughter, reside in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mary Pat Poteet

Mary Pat Poteet, of San Diego, California, is a published author and a frequent speaker on electronic discovery and litigation technology. She is currently the Director of Litigation Support for DLA Piper US LLP and the Litigation Support Peer Group Vice President for ILTA.

Joshua Sacks

Josh Sacks, Managing Director of Peak Litigation Support, specializes in legal technology placement, encompassing sales, operations, and management professionals in litigation support, electronic discovery, and computer forensics, with law firms, vendors and consulting groups. He has lectured to litigation support professional associations on hiring issues, and, in a September 2004 New Jersey Law Journal article titled, “Cultivating Your Firm’s Technology,” he counseled law firms on structuring a litigation support department. A graduate of Muhlenberg College with a B.A. degree in Communications, He has lectured nationally on hiring trends in litigation support as well as on “Best Practices in Recruiting.”
